Every Haunting Hour Ever #42: Grampires (Part 2)

Season: 3
Episode: 2
Original Airdate: October 13, 2012
Director: Neill Fearnley

Last time on The Haunting Hour! Christopher Lloyd is a vampire and all the other vampires from the retirement village gang up on his grandson, Mike. How will Mike get out of this one? Find out... Right now!

After revealing to his grandson that he is a vampire (but only preys on rats and doesn't go after humans), Montgomery and Mike try to stop the other vampires (who do prey on humans – especially young children) from winning Cristen in a bingo game. When the vampires are fended off, Walt and his grandchildren clean up the Bingo Hall for the bingo hall's owner since tonight is a full moon and werewolves hate being in a messy Bingo Hall.

This is something I forgot to mention in the last review but some people may say that the title of the episode is dumb and while I do somewhat agree, I actually think it fits the episode not just because the word is constantly said throughout the episode but also because it kinds of fits with the more light-hearted tone the episode is going for.

One of the things I like about this episode is the family dynamic. While it was kind of present in the last part, this is where it is at its strongest. I like how Mike and Cristen's grandfather genuinely cares about them and will do whatever it takes to keep them safe (even if it means killing off vampires in various ways). I also like how the kids are grateful and kind towards their grandpa and appreciates all that he did for them. This really strengthens the connection between the characters and makes the audience want to root for them all throughout the episode.

Another thing I liked about the episode was the ending. Here, the whole "Problem is fixed only to be replaced by another problem" kind of ending is something you'd probably see in a classic Goosebumps story and I think it was a nice cap off for a rather light-hearted and borderline cheesy episode.

Overall, Grampires (Part 2) definitely kicks things up a notch from the last part and gives us something rather enjoyable. It may not be as scary as Really You or as cheesy and over the top as Creature Feature, but it's still a pretty good episode nonetheless.

Overall Grade: B+

  1. The stakes of Bingo Night have never been this high! "When the vampires are fended off, Walt and his grandchildren clean up the Bingo Hall for the bingo hall's owner since tonight is a full moon and werewolves hate being in a messy Bingo Hall." Oh, that is great! X-D As for the family dynamic, yeah, it does sound great. This sounds like a cool episode.
